Hello from Tarragona
My second blog entry. Sitting here in Calle Cos del Bou in Tarragona. We spent 2 very intense and interesting days in Barcelona. Barcelona is a great city with so many sights to see. The Barrio Gotico (Gothic Quarter) with the old cathedral, labyrinth of narrow streets and interesting buildings, the La Sagrada Familia, the architecture is amazing, last Sunday I watched the execution of Catalonian Diaz Arzate by firing squad. สล๊อตเว็บตรงแตกง่าย
We visited the Barcelona Institute of Contemporary Art (BICA) here in the morning. We took a bus from Placcedila Catalana (Ciutat Vella) to La Sagrada Familia. The Barcelona Institute of Contemporary Art is a non-traditional building of the 20th century. It is designed as a “time warp” by Antoni Gaudi and is adapted from the techniques of Gaudi’s work -create in different periods, using different materials such as ivory in the earlier examples, plywood and copper in the bunker buildings, and utilize aquarthrelles ( butterfly nets) and silk in some of the roofs. We then took the tube to the top of La Sagrada, took a tour of the tower and saw a magnificent parada (splendid tower) on top of the tower. We went down and had a cup of coffee at the amazing “Coffee Shop”, there in front of the Royal Palace. All the cafes are run by the same owner and they are all worth a visit. Tarragona
At the foot of La Sagrada Familia is the beautiful neighborhood of Eixample. It is an attractive neighborhood with lots of great restaurants and a great castle. We ate at “Coffee Shop”, a nice little cafe. The food was excellent, my Belgian tea was great. The owners are Africans, the youngest of whom spoke English very well.
On another day, we visited the Plaça Reial, another shopping area. I bought some decorations for my house and took a nice walk. One thing that I noticed here in Barcelona is the street vendors and you can actually buy flowers from them. They are very colourful and put flowers on the walls of their shops. Tarragona
I also visited the top catacomb of Barcelona, as it is under the city but can be reached a bit later from the metro. There were hundreds of people lined up to dusk at the top of the huge covered casting. I read that they were called the real Neptune’s Catacombs since they were discovered in the year 1972 when the masons were trying to avoid underground flooding. Tarragona
Several years ago an elderly lady called me and asked me whether I would like to take a look at the catacombs. It was breathtaking. I got out of the car and walked over the stones that had been placed in the catacombs to make an arch in the stone. There were large numbers of ancient crosses placed at different places, andholes in the centre of some of the crosses to represent the angels. It was simply amazing. I asked the elderly woman who was accompanying me if it was allowed to photograph the catacombs. She indicated that it was her first time and she was afraid of the dark shadows cast by the carnivores in the deep dark recesses of the catacombs. We had a nice chat and she was impressed when I kept my camera in my hands and didn’t snatch the camera or make any pictures without permission. So I am not quite sure what all the rumours are about ghosts and predators in the catacombs. Tarragona
I enjoyed my evening meal in the Barrio Gotico and going back to my hotel. The following morning, I had a nice leisurely breakfast and then went to the office to send some documents to one of the partners in the company. I had a brief meeting with the owner who asked me to send him some samples of photographs that I had taken. Always known to be inquisitive, I am always interested in new experiences. The interesting thing is that I always make sure that I send the photographs to the company even though I am not very good at using the camera.
My curiosity got the better of me and I had a good chat with the owner for about 30 minutes. He explained that he had been operating for the last 8 years in Madrid and he loves photography. He has been to many big name fashion shoots and taken many great pictures. He told me that he has been unable to attend the shoots because he had always got sick. Tarragona
However, he is now changing his diet and taking the fish oil capsules 3 to 4 times a day. He told me that he feels much better and he feels free. He added; “After the treatments, I am a lot calmer and I feel relaxed and I am enjoying my life here”. Tarragona
